Core List of Astronomy Books Update The Core List is a Web available guide to materials that librarians and scientists believe are essential to a basic collection. It is intended to assist librarians and collection development specialists in building astrophysics collections and to serve as a resource for researchers and teaching faculty. The list is divided into seven major categories: Abstracts and Indexes Atlases and Catalogs Bibliographies Directories Encyclopedias Handbooks and Yearbooks Texts (not textbooks) When recommending a book for the Core List, please remember that: For most categories the books should be in print [Notable out- of- print titles should be forwarded to Liz Bryson, who is maintaining a separate OP list] All but truly exceptional materials should be in English A URL should be included if there is one for the item The nature of the Core List requires that a book be essential to a basic collection Please indicate the level of book using the following code: B - Basic astronomy material U - Suitable for undergraduates P - Professional level of understanding Please indicate the category using the above list.
